Blog 8: English course review and self-evaluation

Hi! My experience learning English at the university has been very good, I thought the classes might have been a bit boring especially because of the online modality, but I really enjoyed it.  Last semester I did English 3 and just like in English 4 the teacher was very entertaining and interesting. I also really like being able to interact with classmates from other carees in the faculty and get to know them, even if it's not face-to-face.  The Zoom classes were fast and dynamic, even though I couldn't attend all of them because the in person classes started and due to my schedule and travel time I couldn't make it, but I could see them and I could listen and continue practicing English. I find Ucursos a very useful tool, allows the conversation to continue and make it easier to communicate with the teacher and my classmates. Also, the blogs are entertaining and I like to read the blogs of my classmates. Outside of class, I use English when I listen to music and watch s...

Blog 7: Changes to my study programme

Imagen
hello! I'm in my second year studying Theatre Design and only started having face-to-face classes in the middle of this year, so my experience is a bit unusual. That's why I would change certain things in the study programme according to my experience. For example, I think that classes on digital tools like photoshop should be included in the first year because it is very useful and can be used for many things and aspects of design. The course load is very heavy, the duration of the classes is long and the work we have to do outside of class hours needs a lot of time and dedication to be able to complete them properly. Regarding the years of study, I think it is fine, but perhaps to have less workload, the length of the course could be extended by one year. I am very fond of the Theater Department, where I do my degree, it is a very nice heritage building, but it needs too much maintenance, I am concerned about some electrical connections and that especially in pandemic we have...

Blog 6: Time travel to the future

Thinking about the future has always intrigued me, although I think the idea of knowing what is going to happen takes the fun out of life.  Also, I think it's inevitable to think about what will happen with climate change and pollution, all that uncertainty causes me a bit of anxiety and depresses me especially because of the UN announcement that there is no return... But if I could travel to the future, I think I would like to go to the time when travel in the universe is already possible.  I have always been fascinated by the universe, its immensity and how little we know about it. When I see movies about traveling to other planets or galaxies it makes me very curious. If I could travel the universe I would like to go to the Andromeda galaxy because it is the closest. Although it is said that in 4 billion years Andromeda will eat our galaxy, I want to imagine that space travel will be possible before that happens and that the Andromeda galaxy will only be closer.  I wou...

Blog 5: A job you would like to have in the future

Hi everyone, I've always dreamed of working in the audiovisual medium, like in music videos, series or movies designing the visual world of a production, so being an art director would be like a dream.  What I like about working as an art director, is to be able to create and design the visual style that a project requires, to think about the details and what can be communicated through them, the idea of being able to define the color palette, the materialities, the silhouette of the costumes, for the universe of each project, I love it. I think my career develops a very similar work when you have to create a design proposal that covers all areas for a play, working from a concept that unifies the costumes, space and lighting.  Some useful skills for the art director are the ability to work in a team, to be able to communicate ideas effectively, to have diverse references, to know about composition, color theory, materialities, as well as having the ability to solve prob...

Blog 4: Your favorite series, show, or movie

Hello!  A few days ago I went to see Dune at the cinema and it's definitely my favorite movie at the moment. Dune is about a future where noble families fight over a desert planet where "the spice", the most coveted substance in the universe, is mined.  I was really looking forward to seeing the movie because the trailer looked so good and because of its cast, with actors like Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, the latter two who I think are among the most acclaimed young actors of the moment and I love them.  When I finally got to see it, I went with my significant other and my mom, we hadn't been to the movies in a long time, so I was excited.  I loved the movie, the color palette, the costumes and the music created by Hans Zimmer (who also did the music for Interestellar), being able to see it and listen to it in the theater was the best.  Dune is my favorite movie because aesthetically it is very beautiful, I wo...

Blog 3: Hayao Miyazaki

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today I'm going to talk about an artist that inspires me. It was hard for me to choose an artist because there are so many that inspire me and lately, many are from social media. So I had to think a little bit about which artist I was going to choose and I decided for Hayao Miyazaki. Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese illustrator, animator, director, screenwriter and film producer. His career began in the 1970's as the director of a television series called "Conan: The Boy from the Future". His first film was "The Castle of Cagliostro" in 1979, but with his second film "Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind" (1984) is when he began to deal with his main themes, such as the care of the environment, fantastic adventures and strong female main characters. In 1985 he created Studio Ghibli together with Isao Takahata. When I was a child, my mom used to show me Hayao Miyazaki's movies, so there is a great nostalgic charge for me to watch his mov...

Blog 2: holidays sweet holidays

I love vacations, especially summer holidays because of the sunny days, the beach and the evenings with friends.  I also have a birthday during the summer vacations, so I usually celebrate with my little family. So for my 15th birthday, my grandma and mom decided that we would save money to travel, no presents, no party, but for me it was the best birthday present.  So in December 2016 we traveled to Mexico, we stayed two weeks and celebrated Christmas there. We stayed in Mexico City, which is a huge city. We went to the Templo Mayor museum, the Soumaya museum and Frida Kahlo's house, seeing all those works live was wonderful. We went to the handicraft markets of the city, there were "alebrijes", that are fantastic and colorful creatures, wooden cherubs, Mexican silver jewelry, and millions of other things.  We also went to Teotihuacan and I was able to see the pyramids of the sun and the moon. We went to Xochimilco which is an area of canals in Mexico City, where they ar...
